Studio Build Progress
I've been working on setting up a simple in home studio to practice my studio skills and provide another option to my clients. This has been a fun project! I certainly don't have production level studio lighting, but it is still worthy of a nice professional headshot photo. It really is doing them justice with some basic lighting control.
I found a small backdrop setup with 4 light stands, lights and diffusers. The backdrop is a little short on height, but I can accommodate with a stool to get my client down at a good height. This setup came with a black, white, and green backdrop.
The lighting is simple, but has some good controls. There are 2 LED remote controlled lights in softboxes. I can control their brightness and color temp. I abandoned the umbrellas and CFL bulbs, which came faulty anyway and am using one stand for a background light and another as some other ambient lighting, but it's really not needed. I found a 250 watt 5000K LED light for the background light. I'm using an ez-up style tent with sides to help control lighting a bit more, as my garage has a window. I've got the window mostly blocked off, but could use blackout curtains or a darkening shade to help. Or, just have my sessions at night. :)
I'm just using a hotshoe flash on my Canon M50 to give a bit of light to the subject. With this camera, I'm shooting at 1/125 F4 ISO400 for the exposure I'm looking for. A few of the below images are at ISO200 and I had to adjust them in Lightroom. For my editing, I'm just doing some simple color corrections for my style and maybe some healing for the reflections in eyes, or removing some stray hairs.
Of course, I'm already thinking of future improvements. I'm thinking a light like the Neewer FS150B for a budget subject light would be a good upgrade.
